Design Approach

When designing your space, these values inform our approach.

  • Zoe believes good garden design is all about connection.

To her the best outdoor places are those that connect visually to their surrounding buildings, ecologically to their local environment and materially to their local vernacular. The best gardens are also meaningful for their owners. They support you to connect with nature and are a stage for happy memories.

To achieve this connection, Zoe builds in extended time right at the beginning of her design process to get to know you and your space well.

  • Zoe believes we should consider our consumption when evolving gardens.

When designing, Zoe starts from a premise of everything will stay and considers why something needs moving or removing to achieve your desired effect. This approach reduces unnecessary consumption of time, money and resources.

Any new hard landscaping will be proportionate and considered. When new hardscaping is introduced Zoe will encourage you to use materials that are local, natural and/or are renewable/recyclable.

  • Zoe believes that our gardens should not only be beautiful and functional but be havens for wildlife as well. After all, our gardens are part of a wider ecosystem. It is therefore important to provide spaces for a diverse array of wildlife to inhabit our spaces, without sacrificing functionality or beauty. This could be as simple as a log pile in a discreet area, or evolving lawn into a wildflower meadow.

During her design process she will work with you to consider how much of the garden can be ‘turned to nature’, whilst providing you with the functionality and beauty you require.

  • Zoe believes great garden design doesn’t age. Instead great gardens are planned to grow with us.

To this end, planning for the future - be it yours, your family’s, or the planet’s - is key to any design.
