Zoe Claymore Named RHS Horticultural Hero of 2023

As 2023 draws to a close I am incredibly honoured to share that I have been named a Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Horticultural Hero of 2023. Being one of only seven people recognised this year, and one of just two designers, is a truly humbling experience.

RHS Hampton Court 2023

Gardening and horticulture are ever-evolving fields. Science expands our knowledge, design pushes our ambitions, and education deepens our skills and understanding. This year has seen remarkable achievements in science, shows, growing, and gardens. It’s been a year of key moments, and I’m grateful to be among those who have contributed to transforming the gardening landscape over the past 12 months.

My work is guided by the need to apply lessons from the latest material and climate change research and well as the body science around how important our environments are to our mental health. The show garden came about due to a deep desire to help remove the barrier to gardening that ‘renting’’ is so often thought of, to create an innovative, functional yet beautiful, inspiring display at RHS shows. My garden at the RHS Hampton Court, "The Wildlife Trusts: Renters Retreat," was a heartfelt project. Winning a Gold medal, Best in Category, and the People’s Choice Award was beyond my expectations. I am honoured that the RHS feel:

“This garden represents the future of garden design, offering practical solutions for sustainable, wildlife-friendly urban spaces.” RHS

As the year draws to a close, I reflect on the positive changes in gardening and feel privileged to be part of this journey. I hope my efforts inspire and enable everyone to enhance their gardens and our world.
